How to remove stains when machine washing clothes

Using a washing machine makes doing laundry much easier, and more time-efficient, but sometimes tough stains are difficult to remove with a general wash. They require more attention and care to get the best results without damaging your garments.

Here are a few tips that ensure you get rid of those tough stains

  • Spot treat the stain:

For a spill, or a spot stain, the best way to tackle it is, to treat it immediately. The sooner, the better. Use a stain remover on the stain. Let it sit for 15-20 minutes, dab with a wet cloth, or use a toothbrush to gently rub the stain. Rinse with mild laundry detergent water. once the stain is treated, put the garment in the washing machine as usual.

1 . Target tough stain areas first

All our garments have certain areas that get a lot dirtier than the rest of the garment and putting these garments in the usual laundry will not be able to target specific areas. The best way to handle this is to dab the laundry detergent on special areas like the collar, and the armhole areas. Gently rub with a brush, and let it sit for 10 minutes. After that, do your regular load of laundry.

2. Soak the garment first in cold water

Before doing your regular load of laundry, mix laundry detergent powder, or liquid detergent in a bucket of cold water, and soak all your garments in it. Let it sit for 10 minutes. Coldwater is best for removing stains, as hot water would let the stains seep into the fabric. Coldwater also ensures the fabric doesn’t shrink. Once the garments are soaked, you can just remove them and place them in the washing machine for your usual load of laundry.

3. Treat stains according to the problem

Not all stains can be tackled the same way. Depending on what kind of stain the garment has, there are different ways to remove them. For oil stains, it is important to treat them the right way with baking soda and lemon. On the stain, sprinkle some baking soda, the soda will absorb the oil. Then squeeze in some lemon and rub gently with a toothbrush. Coffee and tea stains can be removed by soaking the garment in hot water for 15 minutes and are best tackled with diluted liquid detergent.
